Teacher urges maths graduates to consider career options

Although it may not be immediately apparent to some maths graduates, a career as a teacher has more long-term prospects than most others.

That is according to Michelle Gora, a maths graduate who once worked as a financial analyst in the City of London before she changed careers.

Ms Gora explained that a career in the financial services industry seemed like a logical progression from her days of studying maths.

"Since making the switch, I haven’t looked back," she commented.

"I'm starting at a new school in September, with a healthy salary, and have a personal goal of making it to head of department as soon as possible!"

Earlier this week, Toni Fazaeli, chief executive of the Institute for Learning, welcomed new government plans which will see more guidance being given to organisations that award teacher training qualifications.

The overarching ambition behind the move is to prompt an improvement in overall performance, the government said.
