Head teacher hits out at education reforms

A respected head teacher has warned that government reforms will produce a generation of "pub quiz champions", not well-educated young people.

According to Paul Fisher, the head at Oakridge primary school in Stafford, recent reforms risk taking schools "back to the Edwardian period" when learning facts was seen to be more important than developing skills.

Furthermore, Mr Fisher lambasted "crass" SAT tests, suggesting that they disrupt the education of young people.

Speaking to the Daily Telegraph, he said: "We have an amazing teaching staff and they deserve all the credit in the world. It is just a shame that the whole year - everything the children have learned - is judged solely on their performance in one week in May."

Addressing people seeking teaching jobs and others, Mr Fisher added: "We focus on teaching our children how to learn and giving them an enriching experience."

Oakridge primary school is ranked as one of the best in the country by the most recent league table.ADNFCR-2981-ID-801242866-ADNFCR
