The latest figures show that girls are continuing to outperform boys in key stage one assessments, those in
teaching jobs may be interested to know.
According to data published by the Department for Education, overall 89 per cent of pupils managed to achieve the desired level in science and maths.
In speaking and listening, 87 per cent of pupils reached level two, 85 per cent did so in reading, and 81 per cent in writing.
However, the figures also reveal that it is girls who are more successful in the exams.
Commenting, schools minister Nick Gibb said that the results showed that there is still "too many seven-year-olds not reaching the expected level in these important subjects".
"We need to make sure that the government gives schools the support they need to get the basics right," he added.
Furthermore, Mr Gibb claimed that there was an unacceptable attainment gap across local authorities where we know there are a high proportion of children on free school meals, and richer areas.
