We are currently recruiting for a large Secondary school in Lancashire - they are looking for a SENCO to be responsible for all aspects of the curriculum in the learning support team, including:

*Content and organisation

*Development

*Assessment, recording and reporting

*Teaching and learning

*The post-holder is expected to be an effective and successful teacher, who shows a high level of commitment to the school and offers positive support for its aims, mission statement, values and future development.

Leadership

*Ensure that all members of staff recognise and fulfil their statutory responsibilities to students with additional or different needs

*Disseminate good practice in meeting individual needs across the school

*Identify resources needed to meet the needs of pupils with additional learning needs and advise the head teacher of priorities for expenditure

*Lead the staff in developing accessible learning experiences for students with additional or different needs

*Consult and work with staff to ensure that individual intervention and support is built on in the classroom

*Ensure that staff have access to appropriate training for additional learning needs and development to enable the school to continue to improve provision for pupils with such needs.

Teaching and learning

*Identify and adopt the most effective teaching approaches for pupils with additional learning needs

*Monitor teaching and learning activities to meet the needs of pupils with additional learning needs

*Ensure that the most effective teaching approaches are adopted by subject teachers in the classroom

*Work closely with the Learning Support Team to create solutions for students who are becoming disengaged and/or disaffected

Recording and assessment

*Set appropriately challenging targets for raising achievement among pupils with additional learning needs

*Collect and interpret specialist assessment data

*Set up systems for identifying, assessing and reviewing students experiencing additional learning needs, in line with the Code of Practice 2001

*Monitor progress against targets

*Update the Headteacher and Governing Body on the effectiveness of provision for pupils with additional learning needs

*Develop understanding of learning needs and the importance of raising achievement among pupils

Standards and quality assurance

*Attend and participate in open evenings and student performances

*Uphold the college's behaviour code and uniform regulations

*Participate in staff training

*Attend team and staff meetings

*Meet weekly with the Heads of Year to identify and the monitor progress of students with additional or different learning needs

*Feedback on national and local initiatives

*Respond to parents and develop closer positive relationships so that their opinions and thoughts about their children are valued.
