I am currently looking for Cover Supervisors across North and East London ( Islington, Haringey, Hackney, Enfield, Waltham Forest, Redbridge) for day-to-day, short-term or long-term assignments.
As a Cover Supervisor, you will be expected to look after a whole class of children for short-term absences of a teacher. These might be known in advance (for example, where a teacher has a medical appointment or is undergoing professional development) or unexpected (for example, last minute absence due to illness).
You may be an overseas trained teacher that hasn't obtained QTS within the specified time period (4 years), or further education trained. This also may suit someone who is pursuing a career in teaching to gain an insight into teaching in secondary schools.
DAY-TO-DAY DUTIES WILL INCLUDE:
a) supervising work that has been set in accordance with the school policy
b) managing the behaviour of pupils whilst they are undertaking this work to ensure a constructive environment;
c) responding to any questions from pupils about process and procedures;
d) dealing with any immediate problems or emergencies according to the school's policies and procedures;
e) collecting any completed work after the lesson and returning it to the appropriate teacher
f) reporting back as appropriate using the school's agreed referral procedures on the behaviour of pupils during the class, and any issues arising.
PERSON SPECIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
a) Be educated to at least degree honours level and have at least 6 months experience of working within a UK secondary school or educational setting.
b) Have a good general knowledge as you will be required to cover lessons across all subjects i.e. English, Maths, Science, Languages, Drama, PE etc...
c) be familiar with the full range of school policies, particularly those regarding health and safety, equal opportunity issues and special educational needs (SEN);
d) have the necessary skills to manage safely classroom activities, the physical learning space and resources for which they are responsible;
e) understand and be able to use a range of strategies to deal with classroom behaviour as a whole and also individual behavioural needs.
f) Have the right to work in the UK
g) 2 professional teaching references from within the last 2 years
h) CRB checked (or willing to apply for one via Capita Education)
